Tapestry is one of the oldest forms of woven textiles. Today modern, mechanized jacquard looms, using the same techniques as those of centuries past, produce modern interpretations of traditional designs. Traditionally embroidered by hand, they depict scenes and iconography used for decorative display and as a symbol of authority. Once called "nomadic murals" by Le Corbusier.
